When I needed to look at my finances, because severe limits were placed on it, having lost my job, I first looked at where we could save money. Of course we were already careful with shopping, driving the car only for essential trips, and so on. Sitting at the table with my wife I suddenly saw lights on in rooms that nobody was in, and the heating was set too high. OK, so that’s easy fixed: Lay down the law: jumpers on, lights off when leaving a room.  But then I started thinking about home energy efficiency. I mean, I could see dollars disappearing through the gaps under the doors! So, we got an energy auditor in, we fixed all he recommended and are saving 60% on our energy bills. And I trained as a home energy auditor and have more work than I can handle.
