How do Evidentiary Tests Work in Minnesota?
Legal July 30th. 2010, 7:54pmIn practice, of the roughly 33,000 evidentiary tests being administered each year, the great majority (roughly 25,000) are breath tests, with blood and urine tests composing the remainder (roughly 5,000 blood tests13 and 3,000 urine tests). The evidentiary breath tests are made in the controlled environment of the local police station or sheriff’s office using the Intoxilyzer, a sophisticated measurement instrument that is periodically calibrated and maintained by a technical expert from the state crime lab at the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA).15
The principal advantages of administering a breath test versus a urine or blood test are that the results are immediately available and the cost is less. Visit your McLeod County DWI attorney for any legal advice.
